Delivering the latest in coach education research

Finn Gundersen, HPSports Director of Sport Education 
Finn Gundersen has over 40 years of experience as an educator, teacher, coach, and sport administrator. As a co-founder of the oldest sports academy in the nation, Burke Mountain Academy (BMA), he held positions as a teacher, head coach and Headmaster for a total of 25 years. The Academy has produced over 50 Olympians and 130 members of the U.S. Ski Team, Alpine and Nordic. After retiring from BMA in 2000, he worked for the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics and Paralympics, as event manager for the Snowbasin venue, site of the six Alpine speed events, as well as all Paralympic Alpine events. Following the 2002 Games, he worked for the United States Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA), the Olympic and World Cup governing body for 5 winter sports. At USSA, he was the Alpine and Sport Education Director, creating and overseeing three levels of coach education and certification for over 4,000 member coaches. As USSA Director, he authored a variety of manuals, CD/DVDs (over 45,000 sold), and trained clinic instructors. Prior to this position, he had been a women’s Alpine World Cup coach for four years, including Olympic and World Championships. 

In his current position, he is the HPSports Director of Sport Education for an elite soccer development program, working with coaches from the grassroots to the professional level. In this capacity, he travels extensively throughout the world attending a wide variety of conferences and seminars, researching the best practices in youth development and coaches education. Whether in London at the Leaders in Performance conference, the European Congress on Sport Science, the MIT/Sloan Sports Analytics, the American College of Sports Medicine, or many others, the objective is to keep his clients ahead of the world in athlete and coach development.
